Who is Dragon Fire Design?

Dragon Fire Design is the collaboration of David and Colleen White. We have a large repertoire of artistic services to help you beautify and brighten your home, body, and spirit.

David and Colleen first met in 1969. High school sweethearts, they parted as both went different ways to college. By 1973 they lost touch completely for the next 29 years.

They reunited in the end of May 2002 when David did a computer search to find Colleen. In a fairytale romance, they rediscovered their love for each other and to the delight of both their families, David moved to Florida in August 2002. Dragon Fire Design was born as they collaborated on creating a beautiful home and workplace. In October 2004, they were married in a riverfront ceremony in Bradenton.

Together with Dragon Fire's mascot, Ripper, the Bedlington terrier, they have been restoring a vintage 1959 cottage in southwest Bradenton with their combined artistic skills You can reach the Whites at their home studio by email at: sales@dragonfirecollection.com.

Colleen White

With a heritage of artists & craftsmen (her father was a silversmith/lapidary and her grandfather was a painter & woodcarver) Colleen came by her creative instincts naturally. In school she studied photography and fine art, and her interest in jewelry design began with beaded pieces in the early 70's. By the 80's she was silversmithing & stonecutting under her father and mentor, Mike Howes. She made a living for many years in the 70's selling at craft shows up & down the East Coast.

She traveled throughout Southeast Asia for many years collecting gemstones for her designs, including Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand and Pakistan, where she bought lapis from UZI draped tribesmen at the Kyber Pass. (David calls her "Adventure Girl".)

She designs and builds custom jewelry, goblets & tiaras, cuts stones, and helps David on his larger mural & faux painting commissions. She is a certified Precious Metal Clay instructor and member of the PMC Guild of America since 2004.

Thursday through Saturday, 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., you will find her at The Village Gem Shop, 1019 10th Ave West, in the Bradenton Village of the Arts. On the first Friday of each month there is an Art Walk from 6 - 9:30 P.M. The gallery is closed August and September. Her works have also been shown at The Blue House Gallery in Burns Court, Sarasota, Florida, StudioPMC, the national publication of the PMC Guild of America, the Lakewood Ranch Art Show, "Everything But The Girl" boutique and gallery in the Rosemary District of Sarasota, Florida, The Atomic Holiday Bazaar in Sarasota, Florida, the Sarasota Medieval Fair and the Bay Area Renaissance Fair in Tampa, Florida.

Colleen teaches classes and gives private instruction at her shop and in their home studio in Bradenton, Florida, and does group workshops, home jewelry shows and creative jewelry parties for both adults and children. Contact her for a "Clay Play Day" or "Beading Party" for your next girl's night out, birthday party or get together. She also teaches eight week courses in beginners and advanced beaded jewelry for the Sarasota's Adult Community Education Classes (ACEC) at the Beneva & Proctor Road campus. Contact the Sarasota School board or www.ace-sarasota.com for information.
